Unemployment benefit

Hi,
My name is Debora Nabinger. I've been working at the University of Gothenburg since September 2021. As a Brazilian, my residence permit in Sweden is only linked to my work contract. And that's why I always imagine that I won't be able to get unemployment benefits, because I can't live in Sweden without a job (that's why I never enrol in any akassa). Recently a colleague told me that this might not be true. I'll soon be unemployed, moving to Switzerland. So I'd like to confirm if I can apply for the benefit or not. Could you help me?

Thank you,
Debora

  • Hello Debora and thanks for your question!

No. To be able to receive unemployment benefits you need to have a work permit or residence permit for Sweden. If your permit is linked to the job that soon will end you won't be able to receive benefits from a-kassa.

For questions about the pssobility of receiveing a prolongend work- or residence permit you have to have contact with Migrationsverket.
