Unemployment after studies; benefit after for example Master program.

Is the same rule applied for PHD also valid to Master program (2 years)?

  • Hej Edi!
Thanks for your question. Yes, the same rules for a-kassa are applyed on all studies.

This means that you must complete or quit your studies in order to qualify as unemployed instead of being a student.

    This is what you do:
    • Step 1-  On your first day of unemployment you need to register with Arbetsförmedlingen. You can do so electronically here at  Arbetsförmedlingen If you do not have BankID, you must visit your nearest Arbetsförmedlingen office.
    • Step 2-  Fill in your application for benefit. This is done electronically in Mina sidor. We recommend that you submit your application to us as soon as possible. The sooner we have your complete application the sooner we can handle your case.

I hope this was the answer you were looking for.

    Vänliga hälsningar

  • Hello
    Thank you!

Since I was studying full time I did not work during my studies. I just worked as an extra staff in a pub about 15 days during summer.  Before my master I did not have a job in Sweden either.

Am I still eligible for unenployment benefit ?

    Thank you!
  • Hej Edi!

The basic term for benefit from us is that must have lost a job in order to count as unemployed. If one hasn't worked one can't get benefit. This means that your 15 days during the summer isn't enough for being eligible for unemployment benefit.

Read more her: What are the conditions for unemployment benefits?

    Kind regards, Annika
